I was poking fun at how unexpectedly silly the CHB kids looked in armour in the first two episodes of the PJO show (acting like an almighty army and all) and then it hit me. This is exactly how some of them will look like when they will be dying in the final battle. Silly. Tiny. Literal children

HoO is so funny to me when you actually think about the ages of all the characters. Octavian is 18. Percy and Annabeth are 16, almost 17. Reyna is presumably 16. Frank just turned 16, Jason’s about to turn 16. Leo and Piper are like 15. Hazel’s like 14 and a half, and Nico is 13.
The Death Sibs are both the youngest and oldest on the Argo II. Octavian is a college freshman getting into petty drama with a bunch of high schoolers. He gets told to shut up at one point by a random 8th grader. Everyone is scared of the 8th grader. We Sent A 13 Year Old To Superhell and he came back weirder, Just Like Middle School. TLH was just three high school sophomores being sent to do a task and it going Exactly Like You’d Expect. Percy’s the only demigod on the ship who can legally drive (though Reyna gets her drivers license at some point before TOA). What Is Happening.
#pjo#hoo#heroes of olympus#riordanverse#my second favorite thing related to this is like every time Hazel references someone's age especially in SoN it's just. blatantly incorrect.#she goes into very specific detail about how she's 14. detailing like exactly how many months it had been since her birthday#and when she died and when she was brought back. just like ''okay. im 14 and a half. got that? good.''#''anyways here's Frank. he's 3 years older than me'' like literal next chapter. we are told Frank is not 3 years older than her.#Hazel: Here's my older brother! [Nico is younger than her in literally every way feasible]#ive just decided Hazel is an unreliable narrator who is just really bad at guessing/remembering how old people are#which like. adhd mood. forgetting how old everybody is.#and she has the bonus excuse of saying her sense of time is skewed from being a ghost for so long#but it's just so funny every time she's just. with the upmost confidence. blatantly the wrong answer.#i want a scene of Hazel looking at Percy and just going ''hm. I bet he's like 20.'' and then learns he's 16#and she's just [surprised pikachu]#also we know it isn't an error that she's 14 cause in TOA she's like ''oh yeah im learning to drive!''#so she's 15 by then#it is however an error that *Nico* is said to be 14 in hoo cause he's 12 in TLO and 14 in TOA#but we know in HoO the reason that error was made was cause Rick hadn't figured out Nico's birthday yet#and he was flipping it between January or March#so he just forgot how old Nico is for a series and then we went back to normal

Currently thinking about the ending of battle of the labyrinth, specifically wrt Dionysus
pov your son has just died. you've had children die before, obviously, plenty of them, but aside from Pollux you've spent more time with Castor than all of your other children combined. You didn't have kids before you became a god, and you don't have any divine children worth mentioning. This is quite possibly the first and only time you've experienced actual parenting. Castor and Pollux are special. And now one of them is dead.
Castor is dead because of Luke, a kid you've known for years, a kid you watched grow up, a kid who, as head counselor for the biggest cabin in camp, you had to deal with a lot more than most of the other campers. You don't care about Luke, really, no point in getting attached to every demigod who comes through, but you knew him and he was your responsibility. And now your son is dead.
Luke got in because of the Labyrinth. Because he had an artifact to guide him through. Ariadne's string. Your wife's string. The string she gave to Theseus, before he broke her heart and betrayed her, leaving her to die if you hadn't found her and fallen in love. Ariadne, your wife, who is not the mother of your children. The woman you very much cheated on to have those children. One of whom is dead now. Because of the string she made for someone else who betrayed her trust.
And now some goats are trying to get you to punish one of the people who helped drive off the invading army, indirectly keeping Pollux, at least, safe, just because he gave a report they didn't want to hear??
You are Dionysus, and you are having a Very Bad Day

i'm not sure i really like how the trio seems to know most things right off the bat. like the change made sense with Medusa and Echidna, but for the Lotus Casino? i didn't even know that Odysseus ended up on an island where the Lotuses caused the people who ate them to lose sense of purpose, and I've been reading these books for years. i think the whole scene would've been more scary if they'd allowed them to gradually realise it.

Hey hi hello this is me drawing comparisons between Sofia the First and Percy Jackson because I need to let it out.
Listen. Sofia reminds me of Percy so much. She's a kid who's had to take on too much responsibility at a young age to save the world, fighting villains and whatnot. I feel sorry for them both. Sofia especially, since she doesn't even realise how fucked up it is that she has to do all this! She definitely had more choice in the matter than Percy, but still!
They both have magical abilities. Sofia's is mostly thanks to her amulet, Percy's is due to his parentage. They both can talk to animals, though Percy's ability is limited to horses (adding to that, they both have flying horses), horse-like animals such as zebras, and fish. Percy's abilities are mostly water-related (can control water, can breathe underwater, etc.) while Sofia has a wider range of them. She does have one water-related ability where she can turn into a mermaid, but I can't think of more similarities in their powers.
They both have amazing mothers (Sally Jackson I love you). Both of them grew up mostly without their biological fathers, both fathers also coincidentally being linked to the sea. Both fathers were said to have been lost at sea as well, also in Percy's case this was not true.
Okay, now let's come to their stories. Percy Jackson is part of the Great Prophecy, one that came before his birth. On the other hand, Sofia's fate is also in a way predetermined. Roland mentions that he thinks the amulet chose her. Her whole journey throughout the first three seasons, Elena was testing her to see if she would be the right person to save her, amd when she decided she was ready, she sent her a sort of vision. Sofia also has her own story in the Secret Library that she has to finish.
At the end of their respective series, both have to battle a serious threat in order to save the world. Both times, the threat is a great evil that is possessing a previously-established villain that also happened to betray the protagonist (Luke betrayed Percy at the end of The Lightning Thief; Prisma betrayed Sofia in The Mystic Isles). Sofia has to battle Vor (who's taken over Prisma's form); Percy has to battle Kronos (who's taken over Luke's form). At the very end, both Luke and Prisma, now themselves again, are remorseful for what they did.
Of course, one thing I'll add though is that both Luke and Kronos were far better villains. Yeah that's it. Anyways...yeah. That's the post. I have yet to think about the other characters in both series' and how they compare (apart from their parents which I have already mentioned), that may be in another post if I do find anything significant.
Of course, these are two different pieces of media with two different themes and tones, with protagonists who have very different personalities, but I like finding similarities in things I like.

Someone pointed out how Solangelo isn't actually all that great, and I realized I totally forgot canonly Nico is like 12/13?!
I always forget that because for me Nico should be 15/16. It FITS better then him being some little kid because Nico is then a candidate for the prophecy. If it's that big an age gap, then why have him around? No seriously.
Thalia is older then Percy, but chooses the Hunters so she is not part of the prophecy. So everyone looks to Percy. But if Nico was a few months younger then Percy, he's also a contender and we have more drama/suspense of the whole thing. We have Hades locking Percy up being more impactful. Nico is a contender for the prophecy, he is a threat.
Yet with the age gap... it's less that. Like I know, I know. Percy accepted it, he promised, blah-blah-blah.
But man, would it have been damn cool for Nico to be like three months younger then Percy.

things that all-girl lord of the flies inspired fiction like yellowjackets and beauty queens fail to achieve is the fact that in the original the boys who started all the chaos were in choir. I truly believe that all that happened simply because they were stuck there with theater kids

Sometimes I forget that I’m younger than 90% of my coworkers by 1 or 2 decades and my experiences aren’t universal cause my coworkers were talking about reading Percy Jackson to their students and I was like “Oh my god I love Percy Jackson!!!! I can’t wait for the new Disney series!” and they looked at me like 🤨 and I was like 🫥
Cause sorry, I forgot you were talking from the “I’m a 4th grade teacher reading a book with my class” perspective while I was answering from the “I am a person who read Percy Jackson as a child and have grown up loving the series and characters as they grew with me” perspective and we did not line up in enthusiasm from those perspectives

I did not know that my entire mental health would revolve around a tween/teen skater looking boy trying his best not to die for barely existing in a world that wants to hunt him or for obsessing my entire personality on a blonde dead white boy and his girlfriend/boyfriend who has the best personality ever btw
